The negative health consequences for smokers and those near them are widely known; however, many people continue to smoke due to its highly addictive nature. Unfortunately, many municipal employees are susceptible to these addictions and secondhand effects. In order to combat this issue, the Mayor's Wellness Campaign, in collaboration with Pfizer and Fox Chase Cancer Center, has created the "Kick Butt" contest to help municipal workers quit smoking!
Six New Jersey municipalities will compete to achieve the highest percent of employees who have gone the longest without smoking. The winning municipality will be featured at a statewide press conference in or around the end of July. For more details on the competition click here. Together we can succeed in creating a healthier, smoke free New Jersey.
| What is the Mayors Wellness Campaign? |
| The Mayor's Wellness Campaign is a New Jersey Health Care Quality Institute initiative that provides Mayor's and other key leaders with the tools necessary to implement active-living initiatives in their own communities. Our goal is to reduce the increasing health care costs that come from the obesity problem in NJ. |
